Essay: UAE Locals: Good Expatriates
Expatriates are referred to as those people who, temporarily or permanently, reside and work in other country and culture than one’s own. They manage to adjust into others’ culture, ways of living, standards and adopt their dressing and methods of working. Being a good expatriate depends a lot upon the personality traits of a person. For example, a conscientious individual is more dependable, organized and achievement-oriented. These abilities let him perform their tasks with a minimum of oversight as they prove to be more open and thus, promote organization to its maximum potential.
The locals of UAE are reported to be highly agreeable, open, friendly, and helpful and possess all those traits which enable them to work well with others. According to the model of Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB), the locals of UAE rank positive on all the five factors which include conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, openness to experience and emotional stability. Studies show that UAE expats enjoy more privileges and work better in foreign countries than in their own countries (Allvoices, 2010).
