In a fear of ruining his marriage by telling his wife the truth, Judah then turns to his brother for help who has gangster contacts. Therefore, he decides to kill her or plans to get her killed by someone as he did not want to get his hands dirty by being involved in the murder himself. His brother then hires a hit man to kill her. He goes to Dolores’s apartment in order to cover all this tracks so that nobody finds out about him on the discovery of her corpse. The police do not find any implicating evidence against Judah and therefore, he gets away from his crime scratch free. It was sheer luck on his part and as mentioned earlier this shows a basic loophole in the functioning of society whereby, crimes and misdemeanours of people go off unpunished most of the times.
However, Judah after the murder gets completely guilt stricken at his action although he manages to get away with his crime and misdeamenor. He is compelled to return to the religious teachings he had been rejecting all his life and for the first time he gives up on his atheistic approach towards life and comes to believe in the existence of god as preached by his father. He is also forced to come to terms with the fact that we are constantly being watched and judged on all our deeds even if happen to get away with things in the real world we will be questioned and punished hereafter.
